Turning The Tides

Mako watches over Korra as she sleeps, she is exhausted after her traumatic experience, he holds her hand as Asami watches on from the doorway. At the same time Tenzin returns home and checks in on Pema and the 3 kids who have waited up for him, they are all glad that Korra is ok and Tenzin says that everything is going to be fine.

The next day Korra is back to normal and is eating well, she tells Tenzin and Lin what happened with Tarrlok and Amon and that Tarrlok is Yakone’s son. When she reveals that Amon took Tarrlok’s bending away Tenzin believes Amon is entering his endgame. In the kitchen as Asami and Pema clean up, Pema hunches over in pain, she brushes it off as the baby kicking, but the baby is going to be born very soon. Mako then asks for some more hot water for Korra, Asami snaps at Mako wondering why he does not heat it himself as a firebender, Pema leaves the room so the two can talk alone. Asami asks Mako if he has feelings for Korra, Mako just says he was concerned for her safety, she then reveals that she knows about their kiss, Mako just says that things are crazy at the moment and wants to deal with their relationship another time, Asami storms off.

Tenzin then awkwardly asks Lin to look out for his family while he attends a council meeting, she agrees to protect her old friends family, Pema then arrives and is told about Lin helping out, she then hands Meelo to Lin who immediately needs to go to the toilet, Tenzin leaves as Lin wonders what she has gotten herself into.

The Fire Nation councilwoman is leaving for the meeting when there is a knock at her door, it is the Lieutenant disguised as a Spider-Rat exterminator, he electrocutes her and captures her. The same happens to the Earth Kingdom and Southern Water Tribe representative. Tenzin arrives on Oogi at the roof entrance to City Hall, the 3 men cleaning the dome are equalists in disguise, they jump down with their electric weapons ready, Tenzin’s beard fuzzes up and this notifies him of the danger, which he avoids and begins to fight off his attackers. He creates a large air cyclone and sends his attackers flying away. The council page then appears and reveals to Tenzin that with the other council members captured, that Tenzin is in charge of the city. Explosions then go off all across the city as Equalist Airships arrive to invade the city.

Lin, the kids and Team Avatar all see the attack on the city from Air Temple Island.

Hiroshi Sato, on an airship with Amon looks at an old photo of himself with his wife and daughter, he has waited so long for the day the Equalists would take over the city, Amon is intent on taking over the city.

Team Avatar arrive at the city and quickly locate the “AvaCar” which Korra had to park after Asami was arrested, she crashed it into a lamppost. It has loads of parking tickets, but with an attack on the city they don’t matter and they all get in the car. Mako goes to sit beside Asami, but she demands he sit next to Korra. As they drive off.

Tenzin arrives at the Police Headquarters, they are in big trouble as many of their airships are being taken out by Equalist ships and the officers are spread to thin across the city. Tenzin sends a wire to the General of The United Forces, before smoke enters the headquarters and the power goes out, Tenzin escorts everyone to safety using his Airbending to protect everyone from the smoke. They make it outside only to be confronted by many Mecha Tanks. Chief Saikhan and the other officers are quickly captured by the magnets as Tenzin defends the other people, he fights well but if eventually knocked down, he is about to be captured when Team Avatar in the Satomobile arrive on the scene. Bolin creates an earth ramp and Asami drives the car off the ramp as they all jump out which sends the car flying into a Mecha Tank destroying it. Team Avatar quickly take out the remaining Tanks as they save Tenzin. Hiroshi and Amon look on as they watch Tenzin escape, Hiroshi is struggling watching his daughter fight with the benders and Amon promises that he will get his daughter back. Tenzin and co then notice that an Air Ship is heading for Air Temple Island and they rush back to defend it.

The Airship is led by The Lieutenant, he and some equalists slide down and attack the island as the Order Of The White Lotus guards rush to defend. Lin waits back at the house to protect Pema and the kids, as she orders them inside Pema reveals that the baby is coming and she is rushed into labour.

The OWL guards hold back the equalists, but another airship arrives and drops in The Lieutenant and more equalists ahead of them, Lin is left alone to protect Tenzin’s family. She fights them all with Metal and Earthbending, she manages to hold them all off until The Lieutenant shocks her and is about to knock her out until Jinora arrives on her Glider and airbends him over the house, Ikki then arrives on an Air Scooter and knocks down some equalists and then Meelo enters the fight and using Fartbending and some crazy Airbending moves he takes out the rest of the equalists himself.

Tenzin, Korra and the rest arrive back on the Island. Tenzin is shocked that Lin let the kids fight, until Lin reveals that they saved her and that he trained them well. Tenzin  then rushes to Pema. The baby is already there when he arrives, it is a boy, they name him Rohan. The other kids introduce themselves and the family has a nice moment, but it is cut short when Korra reveals that more Airships are coming. Tenzin realises that he has to get his family away from the battle and decides to flee on Oogi with them, Lin says she is going too as Tenzin’s family are the last Airbenders and they need to be protected. Tenzin tells Korra and her friends to hide until reinforcements arrive. They all get on the sky bisons and leave, but two airships break off and pursue.

More equalists land on the island, The OWL guards cover Team Avatar’s escape, as they all get on Naga and flee. They are chased by The Lieutenant, but Naga just leaps into the air and swats him out of the way as they escape underwater.

The Airships are gaining on Oogi, Lin is defending them from the grappling hooks, but realises they will soon be caught. So she knows what she has to do, she grabs the rope with her metal cable and tells them not to turn back no matter what, they all know what she is doing and watch as she swings onto the first Airship. She then powerfully metalbends the airship ripping it apart, as it blows up she leaps onto the second airship and begins to do the same, but she is hit with an electric bolo and captured, but not before damaging the airship and causing them to stop the pursuit of Oogi. Tenzin and his family are all saddened by Lin’s sacrifice and know they are only safe now because of her.

Team Avatar watch on from a sewage pipe as Air Temple Island is captured. Mako comforts Korra as Asami remains mad at Mako.

Lin is brought before Amon on Air Temple Island, he offers her a deal. She can keep her bending if she reveals where Korra is. Lin refuses and knows what is coming next as Amon takes her bending away.

The General of The United forces is given a wire from Korra, that tells him that Amon has taken over the city. He tells the officer to respond that he will be arriving in 3 days time and that he looks forward to taking back the city together. The officer reveals that the General is named Iroh, Zuko’s grandson. He has a massive fleet of battleships under his command.

In “Turning The Tides” Amon, Hiroshi and the Equalists attack the city with Airships, they take out all of the council members but Tenzin. How will the city deal with this massive attack and what will Tenzin do when the attack turns to Air Temple Island.

Out Of The Past

Tarrlok has brought Korra to a cabin in the snowy mountains outside United Republic, he bloodbends her into a metal box and then drives back to the city.

Meelo sleeping in his parents bed is awoken by the phone ringing, he answers it before Tenzin takes over. Tenzin is informed that Korra has been captured. He then rushes to the crime scene to find Tarrlok being healed for injuries, he lies and tells Tenzin that when Korra cam to meet him they were attacked by equalists, when in fact he had planted evidence of an equalist attack instead going as far as to electrocute himself. Tarrlok demands the police be mobilised to find Korra.

Lin in hospital overhears the news of Korra’s capture on the radio and decides it is time for her to return to action, she puts on her armour and then removed the police badge. She then goes to the jail and breaks Mako, Bolin and Asami out so they can all search for Korra.

Meanwhile Korra angrily attempts to break out of the metal box, but to no avail. She then remembers Tenzin’s advice, to mediate on her visions. With nothing else to distract her this is oddly the perfect time for her to meditate, she quickly manages to connect with Aang and begins to see the visions more clearly.

She sees Police Chief Toph and Avatar Aang talking, Aang is going with the metalbenders as it is a serious situation with many victims, they walk into a restaurant and arrest a man named Yakone who is the leader of the criminal underworld in the city. He seems confident that he will not be convicted, but Aang and Toph have many witnesses.

Lin, Asami, Mako and Bolin arrive at Tenzin’s office, he is shocked to see Lin out of hospital and the others not in jail. They ask if he has any leads on where Korra is. They have none and even Naga is missing, they believe they are hiding underground as there is a maze of tunnels down their, Asami’s father’s secret workshop was underground and Bolin was taken underground when he was captured. Lin believes her captured offices are down there also. They go on Oogi to where Bolin was taken in the truck and quickly locate a tunnel nearby. They enter and everything seems normal, Mako is very intense about finding Korra and Asami knows that he also has feelings for Korra, she then asks Bolin about this. He tries to assure her that there is nothing there, but she forces him to reveal that the two kissed once, which upsets Asami as two equalists on motorbikes enter the tunnel and go through a secret panel in the wall. They break open the secret panel and find a secret equalist base. They use a nearby tram to head towards the prisons, they quietly take out some equalists and demand to know where Korra is, Lin can only see her officers as Mako threatens a Chi Blocker for information. She breaks out her officers, but their bending has already been taken. The chi blocker reveals that they never attacked city hall and that Tarrlok is lying, Tenzin realises that Tarrlok is behind Korra’s capture. The alarm then goes off and Team Avatar makes their escape using the tram, they are followed, but Bolin uses Earthbending to stop them, but waiting up ahead is The Lieutenant with many Chi Blockers. Lin uses Metalbending and Earthbending to send the Tram up through the roof as they escape to safety.

Korra sees more of her vision. At Yakone’s trial, it is mentioned that he has evaded prosecution for years because of a lack of evidence, but now they have many witnesses that will prove how he has controlled the criminal empire, with Bloodbending an outlawed ability. Yakone’s lawyer argues that they all know the ability can only be performed during a full moon, but that all the witnesses  will say that he use the ability at every time except during a full moon, so it is impossible for him to be found guilty. Councilman Sokka gives the councils verdict, he talks about how he has seen many unique benders in his time, including Toph who discovered Metalbending and Combustion Man who he bested with his Boomerang. The sheer amount of evidence means that they have found Yakone guilty of being a bloodbender with a unique ability. He is sentenced to life in prison, he stands up and then begins to bloodbend everyone in the room as he laughs.

Tenzin and co arrive at city hall to confront Tarrlok, he arrives and is denying everything, they have no evidence, until Tarrlok’s page steps out from behind an upstairs pillar and tells everyone what really happened, that Tarrlok kidnapped Korra and that Tarrlok is a bloodbender. Everyone is shocked at the revelation and is ready to take down Tarrlok, he then starts to bloodbend everyone and knocks them out before fleeing to the cabin where Korra is.

Korra sees more of the vision. Yakone bloodbends Toph into unlocking his handcuffs , he then knocks everyone in the room out before turning to Aang who is trying to resist Yakone’s control. He lifts Aang into the air and then throws him across the room as he flees, Aang activates the Avatar state and pursues, he crashes Yakone’s cart and waits for Yakone to come out, he appears and again starts to bloodbend Aang this time intent on killing him, Aang’s limbs near their breaking point until the defence mechanism Avatar State activates and easily breaks free of Yakone’s bloodbending, he gets out of the Avatar State, earthbends him into submission and then takes Yakone’s bending away with Energybending. Aang has ended Yakone’s threat to the city.

Korra stops meditating and realises that Aang was trying to warn her about Tarrlok and his bloodbending. Tarrlok then returns and Korra knows his secret is out, Tarrlok is set to leave the city with Korra as his hostage. She knows he is Yakone’s son, he tells her that he separated himself from his father so he could try to take over the city not as a criminal but from a position of power. As he leaves the cabin he is confronted by Amon, The Lieutenant and some Chi Blockers. He attempts to bloodbend them and it works on all but Amon, who continues to walk towards him, Tarrlok concentrates more and manages to slow Amon down, but he continues to resist his power. Tarrlok wonders what Amon is as Amon takes his bending away. He then tells The Lieutenant to knock Korra out by shocking her cage, she uses one of her wrist bands to hold her self off the floor of the cage, she then pretends to be knocked out as the door is opened. She firebends and then Earthbends beating the other equalists and then exits the cabin to see Amon, she tries to take him out with ice spikes, but he dodges and pursues, rather than staying to fight she flees by sledding down the mountain side. Amon lets her go as Korra  falls and slides into a tree, she is so exhausted and injured she cannot get back up, then Naga arrives and Korra manages to get atop Naga who brings her back to the city.

Tenzin and co aboard Oogi hear Naga calling out and quickly find her and Korra, Mako rushes to get Korra and carries her onto Oogi telling her how much he missed her, leaving Asami looking concerned.

In “Out Of The Past” the captured Korra begins to meditate on her visions, she manages to connect with Aang and clearly see her visions, but what do they mean. Meanwhile Tenzin, Lin and Korra’s friends go to search for her and stumble upon a prison where the equalists are keeping other hostages.

When Extremes Meet

Mako, Bolin and Asami arrive to stay on Air Temple Island, the Air Acolytes unload Asami’s massive amounts of belongings she brought with her, they are greeted by Korra, Meelo, Ikki and Jinora. Meelo instantly develops a crush on Asami as they are all split up to go the the boys and girls sides of the island. Ikki and Korra bring Asami to her room and along the way Ikki tells Asami that Korra likes Mako, Korra is unbelievably embarrassed, but Asami brushes it off. She is just happy to have a place to stay that does not remind her of her father, then Tenzin arrive to greet Asami and to inform them that Captain Saikhan has been named as the new Chief of Police.

Korra and Tenzin are at the ceremony to announce Saikhan to the city, he reveals that he will give Tarrlok the full support of the Metalbender Police force, in other words giving Tarrlok complete control over the police as well as his task force. Tenzin and Korra both realise that Tarrlok has used some foul play to get Saikhan’s support, but he brushes it off as conspiracies. Korra reveals that she will not be rejoining his task force and that he needs her but she does not need him, he calls her a “half baked Avatar” and insults her progress at Airbending, which hits her hard.

On Oogi flying back to Air Temple Island, Korra feels like a bad Avatar for not being able to bend Air at all yet. Tenzin assures her that it will happen in time and asks if she has ever connected with any of the previous Avatars, again the answer is no but she tells Tenzin about her visions, he urges her to meditate upon them as he believes that they are Aang trying to communicate with her.

At the council meeting the following day Tarrlok proposes some new laws, the first makes it illegal to conspire with or join the Equalists and the second imposes a curfew on all non benders. Tenzin opposes this as it hurts all non benders for the actions of only a few, the council votes and once again Tenzin is the only one to oppose despite being correct.

Back on Airtemple Island Korra looks off into the distance crying, she feels alone as the Avatar and that she is the worst one ever, soon Mako, Asami, Bolin and Pabu arrive, they manage to cheer her up saying that she has her friends with her, like Aang had “Team Avatar” with this the new Team Avatar is born as Meelo arrives assisted by some “fartbending”. They decide to patrol the city and show that the Avatar is useful, they all try to get on Naga but 4 is too many people for her, Asami then comes up with a better plan and gets out her Satomobile, impressing the rest of the team. As they drive around the city listening to the police scanner, which Hiroshi Sato had installed to keep him one step ahead of the police, for any disturbances. They soon hear of a group of Chi Blockers who escaped from jail and see them up ahead and set off in pursuit.

They manage to knock a few chi blockers off their motorbikes using Mako’s Lightning and Bolin’s earthbending, the group also uses their bending to help the Satomobile jump over a truck and take a very tight turn, soon the battle switches to the hood of the Satomobile, the benders manage to subdue the chi blockers while Asami electrocutes them with her electric glove. With all the escapees rounded up, Team Avatar pose for the media as an angry Tarrlok arrives, he accuses them of interfering with Police business, but Korra knowing he cannot do anything her simply states that she saw no one else pursue them, no police in sight, he storms off giving them their last warning.

Later on they overhear talk on the scanner of groups of Equalists on the streets armed. When they arrive, the power is off and it is just innocent non benders asking for their power to be put back on angry at the curfew for non benders only. A woman asks Korra for help as she is the non bender’s Avatar too, she confronts Tarrlok who is nearby orchestrating this enforcement of curfew. Tarrlok is not hearing it and orders the people rounded up, the metalbenders then use the barricades and bend them around the groups and then use Earthbending to lift them into the air terrifying all of the non benders and horrifying Korra at how wrong it is. She rushes to bring the groups down with Earthbending, Tarrlok knows he cannot touch the Avatar in front of so many people so he has the rest of Team Avatar arrested, Korra gets angry and is about to earthbend at Tarrlok until she too realises she cannot touch him with so many people around, she is forced to back down, she tells Tarrlok she will have Tenzin get everyone released.

Tenzin quickly arrives at Police Headquarters to try and get Korra’s friends out of Jail, he see Saikhan and demands they be released as they are innocent, but he says he cannot until the task force deems them no threat. Saikhan tells them to bring it up with Tarrlok, Tenzin and Korra leave as they both call him the worst Chief ever.

That night Korra is unable to sleep and decided to confront Tarrlok, she bursts into the room and Tarrlok knows exactly what it is about and orders his page to leave. Korra tries to reason with Tarrlok as she tells him that what he is doing is exactly what Amon expects of the Benders, Tarrlok offers Korra a deal: Her friends released for her support,  she realises exactly what has happened, all the previous events were all to get her support, he only arrested her friends to blackmail Korra. She refuses and calls him no better than Amon, this hits a nerve with Tarrlok and he is furious and sends a lethal water attack at Korra, she dodges as the battle begins.

She begins to Firebend at him as he defends with a water bubble, he then begins to strike back  by sending mass amounts of sharp ice daggers towards Korra, she narrowly avoids most of them, but is cut on the shoulder and cheek by some, she then puts up an earth shield and strikes back powerfully with Earthbending, she moves teh whole back wall and send Tarrlok crashing trough the side wall until he is hanging onto the second floor ledge, she walks out enraged wondering if he still considers her “half baked now” as she explodes the second floor with earthbending sending Tarrlok to the first floor, she jumps down and lands with an Earthbending attack sending Tarrlok flying back, she moves in to finish him with Firebending until he reveals that he can bloodbend. He stops her attack and bends her into submission as she wonders how he is doing it with no full moon present, he tells Korra that there is a lot she does not know about him as he tosses her against a pillar knocking her out.

As she drifts into unconsciousness she has another vision, clearer this time. She sees Yukone who appears to bloodbend Sokka, Toph and most of the courthouse as Aang struggles to stop him.

She regains consciousness in a truck, she is tied up, he tells her that he is sending her somewhere she will never be found, Korra tries to breathe fire at him, but he shuts the door just in time, she is driven off to the unknown location.

In “When Extremes Meet” Tarrlok has gained even more power in the city now that he has the support of the new Chief, Saikhan, but when Korra, Asami, Mako and Bolin form the new Team Avatar they get in the way. How will everyone deal with Tarrlok now that he has more power ?

Looks to be an interesting episode, Hopefully prior to this we have some great character interactions between all the characters living on Air Temple Island. It is great to see “Team Avatar” back
